Parents are being warned against buying self-balancing scooters – or ‘hoverboards’ – after tests found some of them to be unsafe.
With families hitting the stores in the run-up to Christmas, trading standards officers in East Dunbartonshire are checking boards in local shops and have asked anyone who has bought one to contact them for advice.
Officers have also been carrying out basic screening tests on the plugs and adaptors known to be problematic in models.
Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “Our Trading Standards team has been working hard to make sure local retailers and shoppers are aware of the dangers.
“A number of major retailers have recalled these products. If you have bought one of these boards you should check with your retailer to see if it has been recalled.”
