Controversials plans to cut the number of janitors at local schools will be in place by the end of this month.
Restructuring – part of budget cuts necessary due to austerity measures – will see the normal practice of a janitor at every school being phased out.
Instead, cluster teams will supervise a number of sites and juggle additional roles. This week East Dunbartonshire Council confirmed that 18 members of staff were leaving by May 31. The new system will be fully up and running after the summer holidays.
Grace Irvine, director of neighbourhood services said: ‘‘As part of the implementation of new arrangements within facilities management, 18 employees will be leaving the council at the end of May through voluntary redundancy.
‘‘Arrangements will be in place until the end of term to ensure the smooth operation of all schools, ahead of the new structure being fully in place from August.’’
