Crash victim (17) has died in hospital

An appeal for witnesses that featured in this newspaper last month has been renewed after it emerged that a teenage crash victim had died.

The 17-year-old male in question is not being identified by police- who first got in touch about the crash in Shotts on Saturday, March 7 on the B717 Benhar Road around 2.50am.

However the officers confirmed that the teenager passed away at Wishaw General Hospital exactly three weeks after being rushed from the scene.

Road Policing Sergeant Andy Shearer said: “Our thoughts are very much with the teenager’s family and friends at this difficult time. Our enquiries are ongoing into the collision and it’s important we establish exactly what happened.

“I continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash or was driving through the area around the time, and has not yet spoken to police, to come forward with any information or dash-cam footage they have.”

Stressing that a blue Volkswagen Polo had already been traced in connection with the incident, Sergeant Shearer said that the driver of a second car was being sought.

He added: “We urge the driver of that vehicle to come forward to provide information that could prove vital to our investigation.”

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting reference number 0522 of March 7..
