A neighbourhood was sealed off when a powerful banned dog escaped from a house – leaving four people needing hospital treatment.
The terrifying incident unfolded at a home in Carbrain’s Torbrex Road on 8pm on Saturday.
The American Pit Bull could not be contained by its injured owners, officers on patrol or a specialist dog handler.
The snarling animal made a run for it and was traced to a back garden – and a police cordon had to be put up to protect members of the public.
Officers called a vet who was able to tranquilise the animal. It was then put to sleep.
Police say that a number of people were bitten and had to receive treatment at hospital
The dog owner, a 36-year-old man is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal.
