Police hunt thug who shot cat with airgun at Bearsden

A callous thug who shot a Bearsden family’s pet cat with an airgun is being hunted by police.

The defenceless animal’s leg was shattered by a pellet and it had to undergo emergency surgery at the vet hospital.

Police are investigating the incident, reported to them by the devastated pet’s owners who live in Baljaffray, on Thursday, March 25.

A police spokesperson described the incident as “horrendous” and said the cat was lucky not to have been killed.

He told the Herald: “Our investigation is ongoing. We are making door-to-door inquiries and checking local CCTV.

"A lot of these weapons are high-powered and can do a lot of damage.”

They are appealing to anyone with any information to get in touch with police on 101, quoting ref BF02810321.

It is believed a similar incident happened to a cat in the same area around a year ago.
