HOPES are high that an end could be in sight to the roadworks that have plagued Kirkintilloch since the start of the year.

Scottish Water has reached the third and final stage of its project to carry out major improvements to the water supply in Kirkintilloch and Lenzie ahead of schedule. The work is due to finish in two weeks.

No more road closures are planned, but traffic managment measures will be put in place.A spokesperson for Scottish Water said engineers had been working hard to complete the mains improvement project as quickly and efficiently as possible and were ahead of schedule.

He added: “As the project continues it will be necessary to implement traffic management, but currently no further road closures are planned.”

The staged closure of Lenzie Road for the project has caused chaos for drivers, with many complaining appropriate diversions had not been put in place.
