The celebrated cyclist Mark Beaumont is coming to Milngavie Town Hall this Wednesday (June 1) to talk about his epic cycle across Africa last year.
His fascinating talk about travelling from Cairo to Cape Town in a staggering 42 days, beating the previous record by 17 days, is just one of many things that are part of a new event being held in Bearsden and Milngavie - The Big Bike Fest which is on all this week.
Dubbed Africa Solo, the Scottish adventurer completed his challenge on Thursday, May 21 last year.
He passed through Cairo, Egypt, to Cape Town, in South Africa, in 42 days – surpassing his own target of 50 days.
The 32-year-old cycled a mind-boggling 6,762.3 miles over the six weeks, spending almost 439 hours in the saddle.
Undulating and mountainous terrain meant that the former world record holder for cycling around the world ascended 190,355 feet during his journey.
This event is free, but book tickets now to avoid disappointment.
