Five ‘test town’ traders selected

Five budding young

entrepreneurs have been selected to open pop-up shops in Kirkintilloch Town Centre next month.

The fledgling businesses will be trading as part of the prestigeous Test Town 2014 scheme.

The ideas competition - delivered by the Carnegie UK Trust - invited people aged 16-30 to dream up enterprising uses for shops, offices, stalls and other vacant spaces - in a bid to revitalise the UK’s flagging town centres.

Kirkintilloch was chosen from a list of contenders across Scotland - including major cities and centres - to be Scotland’s TestTown.

The finalists have now been announced, and will come to Kirkintilloch on June 30 for masterclasses, workshops and advice on how to market their business, sell their products and make the best use of their trading space.

The teams will then trade for real to the public on Friday, July 4, and Saturday, July 6.

The fantasic five are handmade soap specialist Skin-a-Licious, street food seller Nusou, craft business Love Restored, fashion boutique Dolly & Hawkeye and kids entertainment business Tiger Prints.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “Congratulations to all five finalists who have been chosen to trade in Kirkintilloch. I look forward to welcoming them to the town and seeing the exciting goods and services they offer.

“TestTown is a terrific opportunity for young entrepreneurs to develop business ideas and make them a reality.”
