More than 130 former residents of Auchinairn from as far afield as America and Canada headed home for a big reunion recently.

The party took place at Cadder Freestone Club in Bishopbriggs to bring people from old Auchinairn (1940-1980) back together.

Ron Dempsey, who now lives in Canada, set the ball rolling for the reunion earlier this year. A special committee was formed, made up of Alison Walker, Bill McKillop and Maureen Porch.

Alison told the Herald: “It was a great success. We have had great feedback from the reunion with some people saying meeting up with old school friends they hadn’t seen for 50 years was the best night of their lives!

“The event was a resounding success. Families came together and happy memories shared. There was laughter, fun and lots of reminiscing.”

Visitors came from as far afield as Canada and the USA, including Ron and Neil Dempsey and Marge Caldwell-Wilson.

Tom Gray of Balquhrrage Farm also brought along an album of old photos on the night. A Facebook page has been started up and now has more than 700 members.

The committee would also like to thank Ian McNamara for donating stunning banners of old Auchinairn. Anyone with any memories or old photos are welcome to share them on the FB page, whether they live in the area or not.
