Former residents of Auchinairn from as far afield as America and Canada are heading home for a big reunion next week.

A party has been organised at Cadder Freestone Club in Bishopbriggs on Friday, September 12 to bring people from old Auchinairn (1940-1980) back together.

Ron Dempsey, who now lives in Canada, set the ball rolling for the reunion earlier this year.

A Facebook page was started, which now has more than 700 members.

More than 100 people have already bought tickets for Friday’s event.

There will be entertainment on offer, a quiz, buffet and a raffle.

Alison Walker (52) who was born in Auchinairn and now lives in Bishopbriggs, is one of the organisers.

She said: “It’s been fantastic to get back in touch with people after all these years.

Some people have said they haven’t seen one another for 40 or 50 years.

“Ron is now in Canada and another former resident, Marge Caldwell-Wilson is coming over from America.

“I was born in the prefabs in Auchinairn and lived there until I was 14.

“It was a very close knit community and it will be great to see everyone again.”

Anyone who lived in Auchinairn from 1940 to 1980 and would like to attend the reunion can telephone Alison on 0141 762 4469.

You can visit the Facebook page by searching ‘Auchinairn’.

Anyone with any memories or old photos of Auchinairn are welcome to share them on the The Facebook page, whether they live in the area or not.
