A LOTTERY windfall should mean the Gala day celebrations will be bigger and better than ever before in Lenzie this year.

Lenzie Community Council has received £2,850 from the Lottery’s Awards for All scheme.

The money will be used to provide more entertainment at the gala and pay for staging, barriers, stalls, band hire and radio broadcast facilities on the day.

Liz Ibbotson, Lenzie Community Council’s gala convener, said: “We are delighted to receive the funding. The gala is an opportunity for Lenzie residents to come together for a summer afternoon of family entertainment. I felt if we could bring more entertainment in we could get more people and stalls along to beef the whole thing up a bit.

“I think the gala will really benefit from it. It will be all the usual stuff you would expect plus a bit extra courtesy of the Big Lottery.”

The gala, which receives an annual grant from East Dunbartonshire Council, will take place at Lenzie Rugby Club on Saturday, June 4.

The event will include stalls from local businesses, charities and churches, children’s races, entertainment and the crowning of the gala queen.
