Gas pipe factor in Lesmahagow explosion

For their solicitor has secured vital documents from the Health and Safety Executive regarding the incident.

Sheila McDonald (75) was thrown out of the front window of the cottage she lived in with partner Daniel Martyn in Lesmahagow when the blast occurred in March 2012 – the damage caused was so severe that South Lanarkshire Council promptly ordered the property’s demolition.

Despite the family home being rebuilt, both Sheila and Daniel continue to suffer as a result of the physical and psychological trauma they endured as a result of the incident.

And they instructed serious injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell Scotland to help them with their recovery and to gain justice in relation to the devastating blast.

Now, after more than two years without answers regarding what caused the incident, the couple’s legal team have secured a number of documents from the Health and Safety Executive.

The documents have confirmed that a contributing factor to the blast was a gas pipe being installed in 2007 directly on top of an electrical cable – a move which contravened extremely tight safety guidelines.
