MAJOR gasworks will mean homes in Kirkintilloch will be temporarily without heat.
Scotland Gas Networks (SGN) is carrying out a £176,000 gas mains upgrade on Waterside Road.
Around 66 properties will be affected when their service pipes are replaced.
The work will be carried out in phases.
SGN said customers received advance notification letters.
A spokesperson for the company said: “We will give customers at least five working days notice before interrupting their supply.
“In some instances we may be able to bring this work forward upon verbal agreement with the customer.
“Once we’ve completed our work one of our engineers will return to the property to restore supply the same day, typically within two to four hours.
“The engineer will carry out a safety check and relight their boiler and gas appliances.
“If a customer is not at home on the day of the interruption, we will disconnect their gas supply while we complete our work and leave a number for them to call when they return in order for us to restore their supply.
“An engineer will then visit their property again to reconnect their supply and relight any gas appliances.”
It’s anticipated the work on Waterside Road to replace gas pipes could go on for five months.
Temporary traffic control measures have been put in place.
Meanwhile residents living in the area fear their streets could become ‘rat runs’ as frustrated drivers try to avoid traffic delays.
