A 16-year-old girl was seriously assaulted in the early hours of the morning in Milton of Campsie.

The girl was walking along Campsie Road around 1.20am on Sunday. As she approached the junction of Lochiel Road, a man came up from behind her and assaulted her.

The teenager suffered minor facial injuries, however she did not require hospital treatment.

Police officers have been collecting and reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area and carrying out door-to-door enquiries in an effort to find out more information on the suspect.

The man is described as around 5ft 3ins tall, with a thin build and short dark hair. He was wearing a dark, waist-length jacket with the hood up. The jacket collar had grey and white spots on it and he was wearing dark jogging bottoms. He spoke with a local accent.

Detective Sergeant Colin MacRitchie said: “Although the young girl did not require hospital treatment, she has been left extremely upset by the incident and it’s imperative we trace the man responsible.

“I am asking anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to please get in touch with us. Perhaps you saw the suspect either prior to or following the attack, you may even think your information is not important but please let us be the judge of that and do get touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kirkintilloch Police Office on the police non-emergency number, 101, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
