Green light to build homes in village despite objections

CONCERNS over parking, loss of open space and privacy fears have not stopped a new housing plan being given the go-ahead in Torrance.

East Dunbartonshire Council’s Planning Board approved the plans for a plot of land in the village’s Maitland Drive at a meeting last week.

There were 10 objections from local residents to the scheme, which is headed up by development company Hallam Land Management.

Concerns included worries over parking, whether the houses would be “out of character”, a loss of open space in the village, potential loss of privacy for the surrounding houses and increased traffic causing safety issues.

But council officers recommended the application be approved, subject to a number of conditions – including creating a local nature reserve on a parcel of the land not being used for development.
