Having a clear out?

Summer is now very firmly here and people are busily clearing out their garages and tackling their overgrown gardens.

This time of year can see a rise in fly-tipping and to help combat that, East Dunbartonshire Council is reminding residents what options they have for the removal of bulk waste.

The council introduced a charge of £20 in April for collections of such things as excess bags of rubbish, furniture, carpets, white goods, or gardening equipment.

But to avoid this cost, residents can use the Council’s waste and recycling centre at Mavis Valley free of charge. They can also call the National Reuse Phone Line on 0800 0665 820 to donate unwanted items to charity.

While special collections cover a whole range of items, there are some which cannot be collected in this way, including paint tins, engine oil, car batteries, hazardous waste, liquids, asbestos, gas cylinders and tyres.

To arrange a special uplift, just telephone the council’s contact centre on 0300 123 4515.
