Help at hand for first time buyers

A housing developer is teaming up with East Dunbartonshire Council to give first time buyers the chance to get on the property ladder.

Taylor Wimpey will be offering the chance to purchase a range of two and three-bed affordable, high quality homes for sale on a shared equity basis, in the desirable Lenzie area.

There are 10 properties in total, consisting of four two-bed mid-terraced houses, four three-bed end-terrace houses and two three-bed semi-detached houses - to be sold at fixed prices ranging from £105,000 to £125,000.

The prices are based on an equity of between 61 per cent and 75 per cent share, and is subject to a qualifying criteria.

Councillor Ashay Ghai, convenor of neighbourhood services, said: “This is great news for people in East Dunbartonshire and offers the chance for tenants and those waiting for a council home to get on the property ladder.

“The main qualify criteria is that you must be on the council housing list, be a first time buyer and have a household income of below £40,130. I am very pleased we are involved in this scheme; it can only be a good thing with people getting a home of their own at a price that’s affordable to them.”
