Police are hunting two men who attempted to steal a beloved pet dog which was being walked by its owner.

The attempted dognapping happened at around 10am on Sunday, January 3, when a 47-year-old woman was walking her Staffordshire Bull Terrier near to the car wash on Lochend Road, in Gartcosh.

She became aware of a black ford people carrier driving slowly near her with two men inside.

The passenger, described as being aged between 30-40 jumped out of the car and tried to get the dog into the car.

A police spokesperson said: “Thankfully two joggers ran over and assisted the female and the males drove off in an unknown direction.

“The female has been left visibly shaken as you can imagine and thankfully the dog is safe and well.

“We are appealing for the two joggers and any other witnesses to come forward but also to highlight to the public to keep their dogs on a lead at all times and in their sight.”
