Holm Road plot goes under the hammer

The plot, in Holm Road, will go under the hammer at Glasgow’s Radisson Hotel this evening for the starting sum of £110,000.

Should the sale go through, it will bring to an end months of wrangling between Holm Road residents and developer Neil Pringle.

Mr Pringle was given planning permission by South Lanarkshire Council to build on the site following a series of applications.

Matters began to get heated in October of last year when Mr Pringle withdrew his application after environmental body SEPA voiced its concerns over creating the properties next to the River Nethan.

At the time one villager claimed that “the people in Holm Road would be dancing in the streets about this”.

However, the residents joy quickly turned to dismay when a number of caravans labelled “rat cages” were put on the site with Mr Pringle stating that it was his intention to house rats in the caravans – with each van holding around 8,000 vermin.

In November, shortly after submitting another application, Mr Pringle stated that he wished to build new homes in Holm Road as well as an agricultural shed where he could farm more than 60 Kune Kune pigs.

With his successful application, SEPA said that it would have no objection to the plans if there was no development within an area designated as a 200-year-old floodplain.
