Hunt stepped up for missing 83-year-old man with dementia

Police have scaled up the search to find an 83-year-old man with early-onset dementia who went missing from Bishopbriggs on Monday (September 5).

Henry Patterson was last seen on Balmuildy Road at Hilton Gardens in the town around 1pm.

Community police officers and specialist search advisors have joined the hunt for the vulnerable pensioner.

A police helicopter has also been dispatched and the dog unit has been deployed as efforts to find the missing man have been increased.

In the past, Mr Patterson has been known to frequent Bishopbriggs Town Centre, his local library and the Morrisons store, as well as Oregano, Springfield Cambridge Church and Strathkelvin Industrial Park. He also likes to visit Dobbies in Milngavie.

He is described as white, 5ft 8” in height and of slim build with thinning white hair and a ruddy complexion.

When he was last seen he was wearing a brown fleece and grey trousers. He may be wearing a flat cap and in possession of a pipe.

A police spokesman said: “Mr Patterson’s family and police are extremely concerned for his wellbeing as he suffers from the early stages of dementia and may appear confused.

“He doesn’t normally leave the house on his own, and hasn’t been missing for this length of time.

“Local officers are being assisted by specialist search advisors in their ongoing efforts to trace Mr Patterson.

“Resources such as the force helicopter and the dog unit have also been undertaking searches.”
