A POLICE officer who turned a blind eye to a suspected attempted burglary in Kirkintilloch has been jailed for a year.
Former constable Michele Selby (38), from Cumbernauld, confiscated tools from a man who said he was fixing a door at a Kirkintilloch restaurant at 5.30am on July 26, last year.
She then let the man, who had six previous criminal convictions, go free.
Selby, who resigned from the police earlier this year, was found guilty of attempting to defeat the ends of justice at Glasgow Sheriff Court last month.
She was sentenced on Thursday, August 25. It is understood she has been released pending an appeal.
