Labour reclaim Strathkelvin and Bearsden

AFTER an overnight delay, Labour's David Whitton has been named the new MSP for Strathkelvin and Bearsden.

Mr Whitton was declared the clear winner with 11,396 votes, claiming the seat back for Labour from Independent Save Stobhill candidate Dr Jean Turner.

SNP's Robin Easton was his nearest rival on 8,008 votes with Dr Turner finishing third with 6,742 votes.

Conservative candidate Stephanie Fraser polled 5,178 votes, ahead of Lib Dem Cathy McInnes on 4,658 votes.

Bob Handyside of the Scottish Christian Party received 613 votes.

Technical problems had caused the announcement to be held back until Friday afternoon.
