A family business has been named the best delicatessen in Glasgow just a year after opening its doors for the first time.
Billington’s of Lenzie landed the accolade from the BBC Good Food Show team, securing a free stall at the event at Glasgow’s SECC over the weekend.
The award, in association with BBC Good Food Magazine, saw judges seek customer nominations before a number of visits by ‘mystery shoppers’ – including food blogger Katy Truss.
Katy explained what made Billington’s, owned by husband and wife team Mark and Sue Billington, rise above rivals including Peckhams, which previously owned the premises.
She said: “Billington’s had a fantastic range of local and Scottish produce along with delicacies from further afield.
“They had an impressive selection of alcoholic drinks, the cafe serves great coffee, sandwiches made with fresh deli items and a unique cold stone to mix ice creams with various toppings.
“They also run popular cookery workshops and tasting evenings too. The staff were friendly and had excellent product knowledge.”
