Major scheme to tackle plight of young jobless
The number of opportunities for young people across North Lanarkshire are to be boosted by a three-year £1.7 million project which aims to get 5000 potential employees back to work.
And the initiative – hailed as “a glimmer of hope” for young people – will have a particular focus on out-of-work school leavers.

Hide AdCouncillor Jim McCabe, leader of North Lanarkshire Council, stressed that the moves are already being laid down to tackle this issue – and hinted that jobs in construction will feature heavily in the initiative.
He said: “It is great when kids are academic and want to work in computers – but of course you need buildings to put these computers in.
“We would be happy to work with companies who are already contractors for the council for example.”
