Seventeen-year-old Milton of Campsie teenager Michael Hope is fast making a name for himself in the world of politics.
Michael was chosen earlier this year to represent Scotland on the British Youth Council.
Now the former St Ninian’s High School pupil has been made chairman of the council’s Youth Select Committee.
Michael, who is studying history at Glasgow University, was also one of just two members of the committee chosen to represent the United Kingdom at the World Forum for Democracy in Strasbourg, France, earlier this month.
One of Michael’s first tasks is to embark on an inquiry into lowering the voting age to 16.
He said: “The issues discussed in the Youth Select Committee are ones that young people really care about. With 16-year-olds in Scotland able to vote in this year’s Scottish Independence Referendum, the issue of whether the voting age should be lowered in all UK elections has become a live political issue.”
