AN African hedgehog called ‘Pickles’ scooped the top prize in the Herald’s Pet Factor contest.

This year’s competition was sponsored by Pets at Home, in Strathkelvin Retail Park, and attracted more than 100 entries.

Pickles (pictured) is an albino African pygmy hedgehog. Owners Rona Hendrie and Bobby Linn were delighted to hear that their unusual pet had clinched top spot.

Rona said: “We’re so pleased he won. Pickles is a wee character. We decided to get a hedgehog after searching on the Internet. We got him from a breeder in Edinburgh”.

Herald Pet Factor winners and runners-up went along to the Pets at Home store at Strathkelvin Retail Park recently to pick up their prizes.

Bobby and Rona received a £50 voucher to spend at the store.

Second place and a £30 voucher for Pets at Home went to four-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback, Halle, and her owner Elaine Connor.

And in third place was nine-month-old Australian Labradoodle, Olly, who won a £20 voucher for his owner Emma McBride.
