Plans to introduce a new bus service in Bishopbriggs have been warmly welcomed by residents.
First Glasgow will launch its half hourly X81 service in Auchinairn later this month.
The service will run from Auchinairn to Buchanan Street bus station and will be available from Monday to Saturday.
Donald Macdonald, chairman of Woodhill Residents Group, said: “I’m delighted this has been brought in, Woodhill lost its number 12 bus service and this is a superior replacement to it.
“It’s a big plus for the Woodhill area. It’s a good service for people trying to get into town and it is taking cars off the road.”
Bishopbriggs councillor Alan Moir said: “This is great news for bus travellers in the Woodhill area and it’s a really welcome improvement to our public transport.”
“It will provide people with a choice in terms of public transport and it can only be a good thing for the environment and roads.
“I’ve always been concerned about bus services being taken away so this new service is welcome and I hope people see it as a welcome service for people in the Woodhill area.”
A spokesperson for First Glasgow said: “From Monday, August 15 a new, express service linking Auchinairn and Robroyston with Buchanan bus station will commence operation. Service X81 will reduce journey times between Auchinairn and the city centre to just over 20 minutes and will operate every 30 minutes Monday-Saturday daytime.
“The service will be a great addition to the local network and follows feedback from the local community which suggested that such an express service would be well received.”
