Inspirational firms are being urged to put the focus on award-winning work being carried out locally at this year’s ‘Business Oscars’.
The 2015 East Dunbartonshire Business Awards are now accepting nominations – shining a spotlight on the stars helping to light up the local economy.
The aim is to celebrate the inspirational work taking place to generate income, jobs and investment in East Dunbartonshire.
Nominations are now being accepted and there are just four weeks to ensure businesses and entrepreneurs are in the frame.
There are 12 categories: Start-up Business; Growth Business; Best Use of E-Commerce; Independent Retailer; Service Industry Business; Hospitality, Leisure & Tourism Business; Large Employer; Social Enterprise; Young Business Person; Women in Business; Community Champion of the Year; and Business of the Year.
Councillor Alan Moir, convener of the council’s development and regeneration committee, said, “We want to hear about the fantastic work we know is taking place locally within boardrooms, workshops, hostelries, social enterprises and retail outlets across the area.
“If you are a business within East Dunbartonshire which has achieved success over the past year then I would encourage you to nominate yourself and share your story.
“Similarly, if you are aware of a local business or enterprise which you feel deserves recognition for growth, development, achievement or innovation over the last year, then I would also urge you to encourage them to apply for the awards.
“But time is already of the essence – the closing date for nominations is May 1.”
He added: “Local businesses provide vital services, leisure activities, facilities and employment to those living in and around East Dunbartonshire – and this is an opportunity to mark the significant contributions made to the area.”
A panel of judges - including representatives of the council and local business community – will draw up a shortlist of nominees for each of the 12 categories.
The awards will be presented at a dinner to be held on Friday, May 29, at The Eagle Lodge, in Bishopbriggs.
Winners will receive a trophy, media coverage and access to one day’s fully-funded support for their business.
The event will also include a charity fundraiser to generate funds for a range of excellent causes locally.

Exchange Communications in Kirkintilloch – which was crowned Business of the Year at the inaugural 2014 awards, as well as receiving the People Development Award – is encouraging fellow businesses to step forward.
Michael McMillan, operations director of Exchange Communications, said: “We were delighted to be nominated last year and to win two awards – including the evening’s main award – was extremely pleasing.
“It’s a tribute to our members of staff who work hard to ensure the company continues to go from strength to strength. I would urge local businesses to share their success stories.”
