Pensioner comes face-to-face with home intruder

A shocked elderly woman came face-to-face with an intruder attempting to break in to her home in the early hours of the morning.

The 71-year-old was asleep in her bedroom at First Avenue, Stepps when she was woken by a noise at the window around 4.30am on Wednesday, July 8.

She got up and spotted a man standing outside, looking in to her home. He then fled the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses to help them trace the man who was described as white, in his 20s, of thin build wearing a dark hooded top and trousers.

A police spokeswoman said: “The lady has been left very shaken by the incident. Anyone who has any information can contact us on 101 or crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
