Pensioner struck by van in Kirkintilloch town centre

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was knocked down on a busy town centre street.

The 79-year-old woman was waiting to cross the road outside Boots, in Kirkintilloch's Cowgate, at around 4.45pm last Tuesday (December 14) when the accident happened.

She was hit by a van's wing mirror, suffering a fractured shoulder. The pensioner required three stitches to her lip.

A police spokesperson said: "The vehicle was a white Ford Transit flatbed, with a black 5 or S decal on the bonnet.

"The flatbed was also carrying a red generator and was heading along Cowgate towards High Street.

"The driver of the vehicle may or may not be aware of striking someone or something.

"We are appealing for the driver or the passenger of the vehicle to come forward, or for any witnesses to the incident to contact the police at 0141 532 4009."
