Auchinairn youngster Elliot's eggscellent marathon effort for charity!
An Auchinairn youngster has smashed his fundraising target for charity to help local families.
Elliot (9) decided to take on the marathon task of running one mile a day for 26 days – from Monday February 22 until Friday, March 19 in the hope of raising enough for Easter Eggs and activities.
He smashed his target of £500 and has now raised £850 and counting for F.A.C.T (Families in Auchinairn Coming Together).
Mum Amy Webster posted on Elliot’s crowdfunding site: “They are local charity organisation who help offer support to families, young people and the elderly in our community.”
The team of volunteers, led by Gillian Kelly, are in their seventh year of offering after-school activities, school holiday clubs and providing support for elderly and vulnerable people in the local community.
Amy posted: “Elliot has been lucky to attend some of their after-school activities with his childminder - they run everything from Christmas Parties, roller discos, movie nights and sports events.”
She added: “After discussing doing something for others with Elliot, we came up with the idea of running a marathon - over 26 days.”
Amy thanked everyone for their donations and said: “We could not be more proud of Elliot.”
Online supporter Heather Compton posted on the page: “Elliot, you should be so proud of yourself. What an amazing young man you are. Loved getting to see you cross the finish line.”
Gillian also described Elliot’s fundraising effort as an “amazing” effort.
She added: “The FACT group have never stopped supporting their families and eiderly community throughout the past year.”
Support has included helping elderly with shopping, providing weekly drops for families, home baking, pizza kits, supplying laptops for home schooling, school uniforms for back to school and lots more.
Gillian said: “Over April we are asking the community to decorate their windows, Easter style. FACT are running this from now until Easter time, throughout Auchinairn/Woodhill/Bishopbriggs. FACT will be funding all Easter treats to doors and Elliot’s fundraiser will be contributing to this.”
