Giffnock artist’s ‘Jist Gogh Hame’ posters are a hit across Glasgow

Posters of the artist Vincent Van Gogh wearing an Adidas tracksuit and the caption ‘Jist Gogh Hame’ have appeared across the city amid the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.

The self-taught artist behind the posters, Ross Muir, called them “a lighter approach” to getting an important message across.

The artist’s original painting of the Dutch impressionist, entitled ‘Square Gogh’, proved a huge hit with fans two years ago.

“I was doing some more intense portraiture and just wanted an escape from that,” the 38-year-old said.

“On a whim I painted the Van Gogh late through the night.”

He posted his work on social media and watched as its popularity “grew arms and legs” in the following weeks.

After being approached by an advertising company during the lockdown, Ross and a friend came up with the ‘Jist Gogh Hame’ slogan.

“It was just a lighter approach to send a heartfelt message for the people in Glasgow,” he explained. “The response has been incredible.”

Ross said he was “honoured” to have his work showcased across the city, and called the support he was receiving from Scotland and abroad “mind blowing”.

“It was just actually the two-year mark since I painted it, so to see it back out there again, fresh in people’s minds in all its glory, is pretty emotional at a time like this,” he admitted.

The poster campaign has proven so popular that Ross is planning to run a limited edition print run, and donate the profits to a charity.
