Top 12 Glasgow areas with most growth since 2001

It hit 633,120 in 2019, according to the new ‘Health in a Changing City: Glasgow 2021’ report.

It noted that 12 neighbourhoods in Glasgow had experienced a population growth of over 2000 people between 2001 and 2019.

So, which areas had the biggest growth?

1. Yorkhill and Anderston - This city centre area saw a whopping 81 per cent rise in its population between 2001 and 2019, far higher than any other neighbourhood.

2. City centre and merchant city - Showing the increase in popularity for city centre living, this area saw a 65 per cent increase in population.

3. South Nitshill and Darnley - From the city centre to the city edge - this area saw a 49 per cent increase in population.

4. Calton and Bridgeton - Another location near the city centre, Calton and Bridgeton experienced a 44 per cent rise in population.

5. Parkhead and Dalmarnock - Not too far from the last entry, Parkhead and Dalmarnock, just to the east of the city centre, saw a rise in population of just under 40 per cent.

6. Broomhill and Partick West - From the east end to the west end, Broomhill and Partick West saw a population growth of around 35 per cent.

7. Greater Gorbals - On the other side of the river, Greater Gorbals is undergoing a bit of transformation at the moment. It also saw a population growth of around 30 per cent.

8. Pollok - In the south side of the city, Pollock had a population growth also around the 30 per cent mark.

9. Hyndland, Dowanhill and Partick East - While not as big a growth as Broomhill and Partick West, this area experienced a rise in population of just over 20 per cent.

10. Dennistoun - Another location near the city centre to see growth, Dennistoun saw a population rise of around 20 per cent.

11. Hillhead and Woodlands - In the heart of Glasgow’s trendy west end, Hillhead and Woodlands had a population growth of around 20 per cent.

12. Carmunnock - Last but not least, Carmunnock, just on the south east edge of the city, also had a growth of around 20 per cent.
