Platinum celebration is priceless date for great-grandparents

A KIRKINTILLOCH couple have celebrated a remarkable 70 years of marriage.

Janet and David Fulton were married on December 30, 1942.

Janet (90) and David (95) were originally from Ayrshire but lived in East Kilbride and eventually settled in Kirkintilloch with their daughter Morag and her husband Peter Doust.

The couple had five children, they also have 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Janet and David celebrated their platinum anniversary with 60 of their family and friends at their home in Burnside Avenue.

Janet (nee Neilly) won a medal for art at the age of 12 from Glasgow Art Galleries and went on to become a nurse.

In 1941 during World War 2 she was named Nurse of the Year in Paisley Royal Alexandra Hospital.

David was an engineer with Rolls Royce and then Hoover in Cambuslang. He was also a Lay Preacher in the Christian Brethren.

Janet and David are pictured with Morag and Peter and East Dunbartonshire Provost Una Walker, who presented them with gifts on behalf of the council.
