A brand new £65,000 playpark was in full swing in time for the Easter holidays last week, to the delight of local children.

The new community facility in Langmuir Park Kirkintilloch, which was officially launched by Councillor Stewart MacDonald.

It was created as part of East Dunbartonshire Council’s ten-year Capital Programme and replaces a play area which hadbeen originally installed in 1980.

The new state-of-the-art playground incorporates a wide variety of new modern play equipment, including a toddler area with a large variety of equipment for young children.

It also has a separate area which incorporates some equipment for older children - such as an orbit roundabout, multi-play unit, basket swing, flat swings and a skateboard freerider.

Pupils from Harestanes Primary School, who assisted the council by supplying some inspiring ideas for the new play equipment, joinedCouncillor MacDonald at the launch of the new playpark.

Councillor MacDonald, convenor of neighbourhood services, said: “I am delighted to open this fantastic play area which I am sure is going to be a much-welcomed amenity for local children and families.

“Our officers worked with children from Harestanes Primary School to find out exactly what kind of play equipment they wanted.

It’s obvious that a lot of thought has gone into this and I thank the children for their contribution.

“Since the new play area opened feedback from the local community has been very positive and I’m sure it will be very well used for years to come.”
