Businesses are pleading with planning bosses to reject an application to open a new cafe on their doorstep.
The owners of the shop at 2 Springfield Road, in Bishopbriggs town centre, have asked for permission to turn the business from an insurance office to a “cafe/hot food” premises.
But Brenda Young, owner of the nearby Village Cafe, says that the town already has plenty of cafes and that the council should be trying to attract a mixture of businesses to attract shoppers.
She told the Herald: “We have objected to a cafe opening in the Andrew Yule building along with a petition signed by over 200 customers and local businesses.
“We are all struggling to keep our businesses open and the Bishopbriggs community do not want any more food outlets in the town centre.
“We need varied shops to get business back to Bishopbriggs.”
The application will be discussed at a meeting of East Dunbartonshire Council’s planning board later this year.
