Police plea after suspected road rage at Muirhead

Police are appealing for information following a suspected road rage incident in Muirhead this month.

Around 4pm on Tuesday, February 6 a 31 year-old man was driving a grey Fiat Punto up Cumbernauld Road towards Muirhead.

As he was driving along he noticed a black car behind him flashing lights at him and making hand gestures towards him.

The man driving the Fiat, was approaching stationary traffic which required him to stop his vehicle.

At this point, two men from the black car got out and assaulted him. One of the men took his car keys and the second one attacked him.

The 31 year-old victim made his way to hospital and was later released following treatment.

The matter was reported to police on Saturday February 10 and enquiries are underway to locate the suspects.

Officers are in the process of checking CCTV images for any additional information and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Constable Mark Smith, Cumbernauld Police Office, said: “We need to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened here and why. The incident occurred near to a bus stop where several people were waiting on a bus.

“I am appealing to these people to contact us and they could provide information relevant to our enquiry. A number of motorists were also in the area and may have witnessed the attack.

“If they have any information or any dash cam footage, I would urge them to contact us.”
