A man has been seriously injured after a car was deliberately driven at him in Kirkintilloch late last night.

Detectives are treating the incident as attempted murder.

The 37-year-old man was on Braehead Street around 11pm on Monday when a silver saloon car mounted the pavement and struck him.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where his condition is described as serious but stable.

Police said two men were inside the car and are appealing for witnesses.

Door-to-door enquiries are being carried out and officers are gathering CCTV images from in and around the area in an effort to locate the car.

Detective Sergeant David MacGregor said: “The motive for this incident is unclear and a man has been left seriously injured.

“I am appealing to local people in the area who may have seen a silver saloon car being driven erratically in the Kikintilloch area last night to get in touch. Your information could prove important to the inquiry.

“We have ascertained from our initial enquiries that the vehicle sped off following the incident and it may have suffered some damage – if anyone has any information or knowledge of the incident or the car, please do contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Kirkintilloch Police Office on the non-emergency number, 101. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
