Monday, December 23, is the last posting date for special delivery valuable or important items to arrive in time for Christmas.

Customers are also reminded to use the postcode. It is Royal Mail’s key routing tool and helps direct the mail more quickly. It is also a good idea to include a return address on parcels.

Gerry O’Rourke, Royal Mail operational director for the north, said: “Royal Mail’s thousands of postmen and women will be very busy sorting and delivering Christmas mail right up until and on Christmas Eve.

“Please help us to help you by posting by our recommended posting dates and by always using a postcode.”

Wrapping parcels and packages well helps to protect goods and also ensure they arrive at their destination in one piece. Customers are also asked to ensure the correct address and postage is used.

Many of Royal Mail’s delivery offices are open later and on this Sunday for customers to pick up parcels.
