A fault on a power line between Kirkintilloch and Twechar saw roads being closed for several hours.
ScottishPower were called after police received reports that a pole was on fire around 4.15pm on Tuesday. Engineers discovered that a fuse box at the top of the pole had shorted and the pole needed to be replaced.
The areas affected were Waterside Road through Kirkintilloch and the back road B8048 through Merkland.
A Scottish Power spokesman said: ‘‘Approximately 200 customers were affected with a loss of power, for between ten minutes and 90 minutes as we switched them on to other supplies. They carried out the repair and the job was completed by 10.30pm.
‘‘We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the problem with our overhead network.
