A family business has landed two nominations in Scotland’s entertainment Oscars - a year after being named the best delicatessen in Glasgow.

Billington’s of Lenzie has been making waves in the foodie world since opening in 2012.

Last week it was announced that the shop, set up by husband-and-wife team Mark and Sue Billington - had won a place on the shortlist for two awards at the prestigious Scottish Entertainment Awards.

Billington’s will now battle it out against the best in Scotland for the ‘Best Delicatessen’ and ‘Best In House Marketing’ categories.

An independent judging panel will visit Lenzie in the coming weeks to give the business an expert once-over.

The winners will then be announced at a glittering ceremony at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on Sunday, May 18 - in front of an audience of 3,000 invited guests.

There will then be a night of entertainment and celebration at the Clyde Auditorium, hosted by DJ and comedian Des Clark.

It’s the latest boost for Billington’s, who last year were named the ‘Best Delicatessen in Glasgow’ by the BBC Good Food Show.

The award, in association with BBC Good Food Magazine, saw judges seek customer nominations before a number of visits by ‘mystery shoppers’ – including food blogger Katy Truss.

And owner Mark, who said he was “thrilled” with the nominations, is now fully trained to recommend the perfect tipple to go along with any gourmet meal - after passing his advanced WSET (Wines & Spirits Educational Trust) qualifications.

He’s about to get his accreditation to teach as well - making him the only trainer in the North of Glasgow.
