Public outcry unlikely to save popular nursery from the chop

A final drive to save Honeypot Nursery in Moodiesburn from closure looks set to end in failure.

Parents have been campaigning hard after it was announced the popular nursery would shut at the end of this month.

It is run by charitable group The Spark Initiative and provides early years education for 77 children aged between two and five.

At a packed public meeting held last Tuesday in Auchengeich Miners Club, parents met with the charity, local councillors and officials in an attempt to find a way forward.

But mum Liz Wishart told the Herald it is now almost certain the nursery will close on June 23.

Liz, whose son Sam attends Honeypot, said: “It looks like the decision has been made. The Spark Initiative can no longer fund the nursery.

“It’s so sad and it’s going to have a big impact on parents who work. The nursery is excellent and had extended hours.”
