Readers of all ages are being offered the chance to delve back into the past, fast-forward to the future, dip into the lives of celebrities and learn a new skill - all with the click of a button.

East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust is launching a new free eBook service on Wednesday, January 22 - with more than 500 fabulous titles available to download.

Whether you want to read a thriller on your tablet or phone on the way to work or enjoy a romance on your PC at home, there’s a whole online library at your fingertips.

The range includes fiction, biography, books for children, history, computing, science, economics, health, lifestyle, sport and more.

Famous authors range from Maeve Binchy, Lee Child, John Grisham and Terry Pratchett to Jo Nesbo, Irvine Welsh, Sophie Kinsella and Henning Mankell.

One of the featured writers is Douglas Jackson (pictured), who visited Brookwood Library in Bearsden last November to talk about his Roman epics.

Library members can borrow up to six eBooks from one to 21 days, after which your eBook loans will automatically expire and they will no longer be readable on your device.

Simply click on, go to eBook page, create your account (you must be a library member), select your book and follow the instructions.

Titles can be read on PCs, laptops, netbooks, tablets and smartphones. A full list of compatible devices is available on the eBooks website.

EDLC Trust chair Scott Hill said, “I’m delighted the Trust is now able to provide access to hundreds of free eBooks - direct from our own website.

“More and more people are using mobile devices and computers to access information and entertainment so I’m sure this will be very popular with people in East Dunbartonshire.

“The Trust is delighted to be able to help service users access books in a way they want, when they want - whether that is by visiting their local library or downloading a free eBook via the website.

“There’s a terrific range of titles available - from best-selling thrillers and rib-tickling comedies, to romantic epics and science-fiction brain teasers. Why not sign up and browse the ever-growing catalogue?”
