Recycle your tree at Pollok Park

The council has taken to Twitter to share advice under the hashtag #recyclexmas, encouraging all to keep the green aspect of Christmas going — by saving those discarded trees from landfill.

According to GCC, 68,000 Christmas trees are bought in Glasgow over the festive period — most of which will be thrown away, generating 1,360 tonnes of additional rubbish.

Households with a brown bin are reminded that real Christmas trees can be cut into manageable pieces, fit into the bin and collected on the usual date.

For those without a brown bin, there are specialist sites set up until January 19 — in the southside, at Pollok Park (located at the Burrell car park), as well as at Alexandra Park and Kelvingrove Park.

The trees collected for recycling will be chipped for use within the parks, and chippings are available to the public free of charge from the Pollok Park site, allowing for a more sustainable Christmas all round.

Plain Christmas cards can be placed in blue recycling bins, although cards decorated with glitter cannot — local supermarkets will also be offering card recycling schemes in store.
