FEEDBACK from public consultations will help shape the design of a planned new development overlooking the Forth and Clyde Canal in Kirkintilloch.

Trust Housing Association wants to build 66 flats in Southbank Road. The move will help regenerate the town centre and address the need for affordable housing in the area.

Residents were recently invited to a second public consultation on the plans.

A spokesperson for the trust said: “Both consultations went well with a few residents attending each session. The outcome of the consultations is being considered and this, as well as discussions with the council’s planning service, will help shape the design of the building and surrounding areas.”

The site was identified for housing through Kirkintilloch’s Initiative in relation to the regeneration of the town centre. Planning consent for 66 flats was granted in 2006.

The site was marketed for sale and following this a partnership arrangement was formed with Trust Housing Association and the council’s housing service.
