Road closures throughout East Dunbartonshire due to flooding

Torrential rain wreaked havoc across East Dunbartonshire at the weekend with several roads closed due to flooding.

Campsie Road in Kirkintilloch was closed on Saturday, December 5 from McNairs but has re-opened now.

Birdstone Road in Milton of Campsie is still closed this morning (Monday, December 7) however it’s now possible to access the industrial estate from the Kirkintilloch end of Birdstone Road.

There will be an update later this morning on the council’s Twitter page @EDCouncil as the flood water was still too high this morning and the roads team were reviewing the situation to see if the road was passable yet.

East Dunbartonshire Council’s Twitter page warned motorists on Saturday not to ignore the road closures at Campsie Road and Birdston as the water was as deep as five feet in places and ‘very dangerous’.

Maryhill Road near Bearsden was closed on Saturday and fire and rescue were in attendance to drain the water.

There was also severe flooding at Golf View and Conan Avenue in Bearsden on Saturday and fire and rescue were in attendance.

People were being advised to avoid this area if possible - and to only travel if necessary.

Crow Road in Lennoxtown has re-opened after it was closed on Sunday due to a large land-slip from the hills.

The pedestrian underpass at Benvue Road, Lennoxtown, was closed due to flooding on Saturday.

Auchinairn Christmas lights switch-on was also cancelled on Friday due to concern over the rain and high winds.
