A CONCERNED dad has called for action after a car caught fire in a communal car park.
The man says two cars have been sitting unused at the back of homes in Alloway Drive, in Harestanes, Kirkintilloch, for several years.
But recently one of the vehicles went on fire - causing fears that it could have spread to other cars.
The concerned resident told the Herald: “The fire was in the morning, which is bad enough, but if it was during the night, no-one would have seen it.
“I have a two-year-old car and my son has a car. We pay a fortune for insurance. If they get scorched or damaged, we lose our no claims bonus through no fault of our own.
“We sometimes have to park next to these cars. They are an eyesore.
“They have lain there for about three or four years.
“I have contacted the council and they said to get in touch with the DVLA, but if the cars have been registered for a Statutory off Road Notification (SORN)they won’t be interested.
“I also contacted the police, who said they would look into it.”
