A planning application which could see a Kirkintilloch supermarket double in size has been lodged with council chiefs

As the Herald reported two weeks ago, Sainsbury’s are hoping to expand their town centre branch.

East Dunbartonshire Council last week confirmed that a ‘proposal of application notice’ had been received for a “major development” on the site of the store.

Thomas Glen, the council’s director of development and regeneration, said: “As with all major applications our strategic development and regeneration team has offered to meet with the applicant and we have now had early pre-application discussions with Sainsbury’s.”
