A library in memory of a much-missed councillor has been officially opened.

The Charles Kennedy Memorial Library, at St Machan’s Primary School in Lennoxtown, was opened at a dedication ceremony held at the school on Thursday.

Those attending the library dedication included the councillors’ relatives from the Dempsey and Cavanah families - who funded the memorial - alongside councillors, council officers, members of the school community and children’s author Gayle Clarke.

Councillor Kennedy’s sister, Agnes Dempsey, said: “As Charles’ closest relatives, we wanted to support the school in their endeavours to update the library facilities for current and future generations.

“We have done this in memory of Charles, who was a dedicated councillor and member of our community, as well as a great supporter of the youth of our villages and a former pupil of St Machan’s.”
