DETERMINED mums and youngsters have won their campaign to set up a brilliant new playpark in their community.
The £75,000 state-of-the-art facility was officially opened on Sunday by Scotland rugby star Alastair Kellock.
The playpark, in Second Avenue, Auchinloch, includes a climbing area for toddlers, a multi-unit for children aged six to 12, swings and a trampoline.
It was created following a three-year campaign by the Auchinloch Playpark Initiative, which was set up by mums Laura Barr, Cara Duguid and Lynsey Reid from Auchinloch Mother and Toddlers’ Group.
The group decided to take action when North Lanarkshire Council announced it had no money to upgrade the existing playpark that was in a rundown state.
Lynsey said: “We’re absolutely delighted. The children love the new playpark, there’s so much for them to do. The old park was really rundown and we felt it was time for a revamp.
“We are really proud of what we’ve achieved, but the best reward is seeing the children having so much fun.
“We would like to thank everyone who helped us reach our target, including Christina McGready, Sandra Mousdale and their team at North Lanarkshire Council play services.
“Also, the companies we were lucky enough to get funding from, North Lanarkshire Council grounds and estate maintenance, Auchinloch Community Council, North Lanarkshire Council’s early years, Playdale Playgrounds, councillors Brian Wallace, Frances McGlinchey, William Hogg and Joe Shaw, and the Auchinloch community for all their support.”
